Its Freaky Fiddle Friday so you know what that means — its weird and it ain’t Bluegrass, but it sure is good. So without further adieu, I present to you, Väsen’s Aspen debut @ the Wheeler Opera House where they played with Mike Marshall & Darol Anger.
In case you were like me and wondering what that Freaky Fiddle thing the guy in the middle is playing its apparently a Nyckelharpa. Looks kind of like a Hurdy Gurdy, but different. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it.
A nyckelharpa (literally “key harp”, plural nyckelharpor or sometimes keyed fiddle) is a traditional Swedish musical instrument. It is a string instrument or chordophone. Its keys are attached to tangents which, when a key is depressed, serve as frets to change the pitch of the string.
